January 8th, 9th, 10th, 2010 the AEVA will host the Provincial Vaulting Trainer Level 1 Coaching Course. It will be held at Spruce Valley Ranch in Rocky Mountain House and the course Conductor will be Colin Schmidt, from Chilliwack, BC.
This invitation extends to interested individuals from all over Canada but, owing to distance, especially the western provinces.
The Provincial Vaulting Trainer Level 1 Coaching Course is the basic provincial entry level for recreational vaulting as well as competitive vaulting. It is our hope to interest many individuals in becoming familiar with the sport of vaulting for their children and to encourage the development of vaulting programs within already existing riding stables and horse barns. Vaulting is currently recognized by Equine Canada as one of the basic 'Fundamentals' as expressed in the LTED booklet published by Sport Canada, and is an ideal start for children wishing to learn to ride.
This is also an opportunity for parents of current vaulters to become more involved in the sport as well as introducing the details of a vaulting program to prospective new coaches in the hopes that new vaulting clubs will be born in all areas of Canada, but more locally in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and B.C.
Colin Schmidt is Canada's premier male vaulter and has had years of experience coaching, competing and designing instructor programs. His course outline covers everything from choosing a suitable vaulting horse, aquisition of appropriate tack, lesson plans for recreation and competition and vaulting rules. There is also a section on how to lunge the vaulting horse. A practical and theory examination are expected at the end of the weekend.
Spruce Valley Ranch is situated approximately 15 minutes northwest of Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, on Highway 12. It is easily accessible from all directions and in most weather conditions. It is 1 hour west from Red Deer, 2 1/2 hours from both Calgary and Edmonton.
The arena is bright and heated in winter time. There is a heated exercise room that doubles for a classroom, with access to coffee, tea and snacks throughout the course. There will also be trained vaulting horses available for practical sessions.
We hope to see many of you there!
